Our subject

Our subject is "Provide easy access to learning in-demand skills.".
It comes from the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal number four, which is entitled "Quality education".

Our research question

The research question we have formulated together is "How can we help and support students in acquiring specific skills sought by companies?". The two projects ideas below try to answer that question.

Project 1 · Skillab

Context

When? Where? Who? Why? Explain the specific context of your project.

In-demand skills can be defined as the specific skills recruiters seek the most when searching for talents and future employees. However, a quick Google search let's you realise that in-demand skills vary from year to year and even month to month and are very diverse and numerous. In that vast wilderness of skill demand and formation offer, there is no easy way for a student to find the perfect fit to his personal path and to assess a formation's impact on his value to the recruiter.

Target + persona

For whom? Describe the users and beneficiaries of your project, and then suggest a quick persona (refer to Part 2 of the course for methodology tips).

The target is the student. His school and traditional curriculum provides him with a global education and then, with a more specific education in master's degree or other graduate program but they can rarely hybrid knowledge and fields in such educational paths. Therefore, we are focusing on the student who wants to learn specific skills out of curiosity and interest but also for professional strategy and added value to the eyes of the recruiters.

Persona

Service offered

What? How? Explain how your solution works, what it enables the user to do, and how is solves the initial issue.

Our solution is quite simple: we want to provide Thomas with a platform that will help him find the best formation for his profile. The idea is for him to fill his personal details such as his CV, education etc and also what job/field he wants to work in. The platform would then assess how strong his profile is and what formation could help him become more visible and valuable to the recruiters. The platform would regroup all available formations from the main formation providers such as Udemy, OpenClassrooms or the ENI for Thomas to have direct access to them and a clear view of the price, the conditions of learning, the content and an estimation of the added value to his profile.

Features + user flow

Explain what features your project involves and hierarchize them from the most important one to the least. Remember: a feature is a verb + a noun, it describes an action that the user can do.

Then, for your first and most important feature (the key feature), write down and draw the user flow: what steps will the user have to go through, from the initial situation to the final situation? Again, refer to Part 2 of the course for methodological tips.

Illustrations

Find pictures that describe the universe around your service (context, users, places, technologies…). Don't try to illustrate the final service that you may have in mind but instead, its context. Basically, translate the keywords you used in the descriptions above to pictures.

Benchmark

List competitors or related projects, and describe how they relate or differentiate to your project.

Project 2 · MasterFrench

Context

When? Where? Who? Why? Explain the specific context of your project.

There are skills that are considered as natural or fundamental, that is to say everyone should have interiorized them according to the public opinion. For instance, if you are French everyone assumes that you should know how to speak French properly especially at a certain age. However lots of studies have shown that French students are becoming always worst at French which makes mastering French language more than ever an in-demand skill by firms but also by students that want to improve this skill.

Target + persona

For whom? Describe the users and beneficiaries of your project, and then suggest a quick persona (refer to Part 2 of the course for methodology tips).

This project is targetting students. Indeed the gaps in French are mostly being felt when French students don't have regular traditionel French classes where they can learn grammar, spelling and conjugation properly. It occurs mainly in High School, they have French classes until the French baccalaureate test and even these are more French literature classes than French language classes. Once the French baccalaureate test is passed, it's over. Thus with the arrival of this exam and the others, the application processes for higher education and job applications, the students are most afraid that their level of French will penalize them. Indeed because this is considered as an innate skill it's very discriminating if it's not well mastered and this judgment makes them afraid to ask for help.

Persona

Service offered

What? How? Explain how your solution works, what it enables the user to do, and how is solves the initial issue.

Our solution is to create our own online French training platform. This platform is accessible for free and easily since it's presented as an application. The user will also improve his French skills without feeling judged or bored because we want our teachers to teach him French in a playful way to make it look easier. These teachers are also here to assist the student as long as he needs.
